3rd July 2018, London – Commenting on the publication of a review by the Committee on Standards in Public life on MPs’ financial interests, Steve Goodrich, Research Manager at Transparency International UK, said:

“We welcome the Committee on Standards in Public Life’s thoughtful proposals on MPs’ financial interests. The current process for publishing this information is embarrassingly anachronistic and not fit for purpose, whilst un-checked loopholes allow Parliamentarians to provide lobbying advice to paying clients, potentially to the detriment of their constituents and the wider public. Both of these should be resolved as a matter of urgency to help bring Parliament into line with good practice and nearer to the twenty-first century.”
